Instructional Support & Related Services

  • The Burleson Independent School District ensures that, to the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities are educated with children who are not disabled. The Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee is responsible for determining the least restrictive environment (LRE) in which a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) is to be implemented. Instructional arrangements/settings shall be based on the individual needs of the student and his/her IEP.

    Placement options include:

    • Facilitated Support:  Specific skill and event assistance provided in the general education classroom;
    • Collaborative Teaching:  Specialized instruction provided in the general education classroom by two collaborative teachers;
    • Speech Therapy:  Speech therapy services provided in the general education classroom or other setting;
    • Teaching Interventions for Performance Support (TIPS): Services provided in a setting other than the regular classroom for less than 20 percent of the regular school day;
    • Self-Contained (mild, moderate, or severe):  Services provided to a student who is in a self-contained program for 50 percent or more of the school day provided at a student’s home campus or other district campus containing centralized self-contained instructional support;
    • Homebound:  Services provided at home or hospital bedside;
    • Hospital class: Providing services in a classroom, hospital facility or residential care and treatment facility not operated by the district;
    • Adult Transition Services:  Specialized services provided to a student ages 18-21 who have met all the academic requirements for graduation.  Direct involvement will be provided by special education personnel in the implementation of the transition and vocational portion of a student’s IEP;
    • Other special education instructional settings available outside of BISD may include, but are not limited to, the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program, the Regional Day School for the Deaf, placement in a residential facility, or the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

    504 Instructional Services and Supports

    The Burleson Independent School District provides services and accommodations for students who qualify under Section 504 of the rehabilitation Act of 1973.  These services and supports are available for students who have identified disabilities that restrict life activities.
