Inclement Weather

  • Burleson ISD is committed to providing a safe and quality education experience for students. Occasionally, weather factors outside of our control may impact the normal school schedule. When it comes to making decisions on a school delay, closing or early dismissal, our primary concern is always for the safety of our students and staff.

In the event of inclement weather, we strive to make a decision as soon as possible because we know these decisions have a significant impact on families.

Once a decision is made, a notice will immediately be posted on the Burleson ISD website. Announcements will also be posted to the district Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram

The district will send an automated email and text to all parents. This is why we request you please ensure parent contact information is correct in Skyward Family Access. See below for step-by-step directions on updating contact information for text message alerts.

In addition, information will be sent to the news media, including major regional television and radio stations. Burleson ISD cannot guarantee that the media will report the decision. Thus, we encourage you to check multiple media sources as well as refer to the Burleson ISD website.

In the event the school opening is delayed, the notice will be given as an amount of time, i.e. “School will be delayed 2 hours.” This sample message indicates that all schedules, including buses, will be operating two hours later than the normal operating time.

Our primary concern is for the safety of our students and staff.  If your child is tardy due to hazardous roads, please contact your child’s principal and an excused tardy/absence will be issued.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires school districts to build two “make-up days” for school closures into the adopted school calendar. In the event that the district deems it necessary to close school on a scheduled instructional day, the make-up days are to be used to ensure that the minimum days of instruction are provided.
