Burleson ISD offers innovative, relevant opportunities for students to create custom learning experiences at every level.
A choice school offers students the opportunity to explore a specific pathway while still learning the required state curriculum. Students interested in attending choice schools must apply and follow application guidelines specific to the school of choice.
Programs of choice offer students the opportunity to participate in a specific program while still attending their home campus. Students interested in participating in a choice program may visit with their campus counselor to request additional information.

General Information
What schools of choice are available in Burleson ISD?
- Currently, the district offers:
- Elementary: The Academy of the Arts at Bransom, Academy at Nola Dunn, Academy of Leadership and Technology at Mound, Norwood Environmental Science Academy, and STEAM Academy at Stribling.
- Middle school: STEAM Middle School and Game Development Design School will accept applications for grades 6, 7, and 8.
- High school: Burleson Collegiate High School and Game Development Design School will accept applications for grade 9 only.

How do we apply for a school of choice?

Parents may fill out an application online at BURLESONISD.SCHOOLMINT.NET during the application window to be included in the lottery.
Is transportation provided?
- Elementary Schools of Choice: No transportation is provided. Students who attend an elementary school of choice through the application process will need to provide their own transportation to and from school.
- STEAM Middle School: A shuttle is provided from Hughes and Kerr Middle Schools. Students who are eligible for bus service may ride the bus to their zoned middle school and then ride the shuttle to STEAM Middle School.
- Game Development Design School: A shuttle is provided from Hughes and Kerr Middle Schools to Game Development Design School for grades 6-8. A shuttle is also provided from Burleson High School and Centennial High School for grades 9+. Students who are eligible for bus service may ride the bus to their zoned campus and then ride the shuttle to Game Development Design School.
- Burleson Collegiate High School: A shuttle is provided from Burleson High School and Centennial High School. Students who are eligible for bus service may ride the bus to their zoned campus and then ride the shuttle to BCHS.

Application Information
What information should parents know when applying online via BURLESONISD.SCHOOLMINT.NET?
- Parents will be required to create a SchoolMint account and set up a family profile in order to apply. This is not the same as your Skyward account.
- Parents will need to know their student's ID number (lunch account number) when completing the application.
- Due to recent carrier changes, we recommend that parents set up their SchoolMint profile to receive both text and email notifications.
- When filling out the SchoolMint application, parents may select 1 or 2 choices depending on interest. The lottery is designed to prioritize by the level of choice in order to maximize the number of students that will be accepted to attend their first school of choice. Applicants selected in the lottery will only receive one offer. Rank the school you most prefer as Rank 1.
May I apply to all elementary schools of choice?
- No. Each student can submit a single application for one or two schools of choice based on interest.
- The lottery is designed to prioritize by the level of choice in order to maximize the number of students that will be accepted to attend their first school of choice. Applicants selected in the lottery will only receive one offer. Rank the school you most prefer as Rank 1.
Do I need to stand in line to submit my child’s application?
- No. Burleson ISD’s application process is 100% online. You will need internet access to apply.
What is required for me to apply?
- Internet access and an email address.
If I do not have internet access, how can I complete the online application?
- If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the Burleson ISD Administration Building at 817-245-1000 to make an appointment to use a computer to submit an application. The Burleson ISD Administration office is located at 1160 SW Wilshire Blvd.
What if my student is currently attending a school of choice and wishes to apply to a different school of choice?
- If a current choice student wishes to apply to a different school of choice, they will need to apply online for their preferred school of choice.
My student is currently in 8th grade at Game Development Design School. Do they need to fill out an application for 9th grade at Game Development Design School?
- Yes. Moving from middle school to high school is an important event in our families’ lives. For this reason, students and families are asked to apply and participate in an interview which will provide opportunities for questions and discussion of the four-year graduation plan.
What if my student is currently attending a BISD school of choice and wishes to stay at that school? Do I need to re-apply?
- No. Once a student has entered a campus as a school of choice student, they do not need to re-apply to continue attending that campus.
- New applications are required when a student is transitioning to the next education level. For example, a current Game Development Design School 8th grader would need to apply for 9th-grade Game Development Design School. A 5th-grade STEAM Academy at Stribling student would need to apply for 6th-grade at STEAM Middle School.
Do I need to apply if I wish to attend the elementary school of choice in my Burleson ISD attendance zone?
- No. Students can attend the elementary schools of choice within the attendance zone of their primary residence in Burleson ISD.
- If you are unsure which campus you are zoned for, you can enter your home address into the BISD School Search tool.
- Please note Academy at Nola Dunn does not have an attendance zone. All students who wish to attend Academy at Nola Dunn must apply to the lottery.
Do I need to apply online at this time for my child to attend kindergarten at a Burleson ISD school of choice?
- Yes, Kindergarten students interested in an elementary school of choice MUST also apply online at BURLESONISD.SCHOOLMINT.NET
I live in BISD’s attendance zone, but my child is currently enrolled in a private school. May I apply for him/her to attend a school of choice?
- Yes, all students living in the BISD attendance zone may apply. We will verify the addresses with the information submitted. Students who are accepted will then need to formally enroll in BISD at their school of choice, which includes verification of residency.
Will I receive confirmation that my application has been received?
- Yes, you will receive an application confirmation email from SchoolMint. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your SPAM folder. If you still do not find an email, contact 817-245-1000 for assistance.
Can I make changes to my application once it’s been submitted?
- Yes, changes to the application can be made using the login and password created up until the closing of the application window.

Notifications & Waitlist
How will I know if I’ve been accepted to the school of choice?
- Acceptance letters will be sent via email. If the interest in a program exceeds the number of seats designated for choice for a campus, a waitlist will be created.
- Elementary - Students/Parents will be notified via email on February 9, 2024.
- Middle School - Students/Parents will be notified via email on February 9, 2024.
- High School - Students/Parents will be notified via email on January 8, 2024.
What if I didn't receive an email or text notification regarding my student's status?
- Everyone will receive a results notification from SchoolMint. If you did not receive a text or email, please check your SPAM folder and log in to your SchoolMint account first, then contact 817-245-1000 for assistance.

The Academy at Nola Dunn offers a brain-based environment and instruction, including experiential field trips, vertical and horizontal schedules, character focus and instruction, hands-on learning, vertical teams, and buddy classes, after school clubs, an Extended Day Program, and narrative report card.

Game Development Design School (GDDS) is a school of choice for grades 6-12 that gears learning towards the highest level of rigor in coding and game programming. BCHS does not offer extracurriclar activities or fine arts due to the specific crosswalk agreed upon between BCHS and Hill College.

What is an Early College High School?
Burleson Collegiate High School offers students the opportunity to earn their Associate of Liberal Arts degree from Hill College (up to 60 college credit hours) while earning their high school diploma, at no cost to students.
Students complete 4 years of high school and 2 years of college simultaneously.
This program enables students to develop technical skills while earning college creditials and degrees to pursue in-demand career paths.

Hajek Elementary is a neighborhood school serving Kindergarten through 5th-grade students and has a consistent enrollment of approximately 600 students. Taylor Elementary
Taylor Elementary is home to approximately 500 students in grades PreK through 5th. Taylor is the district bilingual campus for elementary students who qualify for enrollment in a bilingual program. At least half of our students, comprised of students from our attendance zone and from all over the district, and staff is bilingual. At Taylor Elementary, our mission is to promote quality and rigorous educational opportunities to strengthen the whole child and encourage all students to be lifelong learners.

Kerr Middle School serves nearly 1200 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. We are a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase school, which means developing strong relationships are at the core of our beliefs.
