    Daily Health Screenings

BISD employees should self screen for COVID-19 symptoms each day prior to arriving at work.

Parents should screen their student(s) for COVID-19 symptoms each day.

    Recommendations for Personal Protective Equipment

Per GA-38, school systems cannot require students or staff to wear a mask. GA-38 addresses government-mandated face coverings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other authority to require protective equipment, including masks, in an employment setting is not necessarily affected by GA-38.

School systems must allow individuals to wear a mask if they choose to do so.

    CDC encourages facial coverings.

    Recommendations for Social Distancing

BISD will follow CDC social distancing guidelines where appropriate.

    Hand Washing/Sanitizing Recommendations

Frequent disinfection and hand sanitization will promote health and wellness of students and staff.

    Hand Washing/Sanitizing Recommendations:

    • Hand sanitizer will be available at the main entry to the campus, in classrooms, in the cafeteria, and in common areas throughout the campus.
    • Staff and students will be encouraged to regularly wash or sanitize their hands.

    Campus Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Ventilation

    Daily Campus Cleaning

    • Each classroom will be cleaned and restrooms disinfected.
    • Cafeterias will be disinfected between lunch periods.

BISD has increased the indoor fresh air intake for our heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in accordance with industry and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, and all filters have been changed districtwide.

Protocols for Positive COVID-19 Cases on Campus

BISD will consult with our local public health authority on all positive situations.

Required Actions if Individuals with Test-Confirmed Cases Have Been in a School

    1. If an individual who has been in a school is test-confirmed to have COVID-19, the school must notify its local health department, in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, including confidentiality requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). • •
    2. As provided in this Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Rule, school systems must exclude students from attending school in person who have or are suspected of having COVID-19, and must immediately notify parents if this is determined while on campus. As noted in the rule, exclusion shall continue until the conditions for re-entry are met:
      • For children with symptoms, at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever-free, and other symptoms have improved.
      • Children who test positive for COVID-19 but do not have any symptoms must stay home until at least 5 days after the day they were tested.
