Student Transfers

    • Explore the opportunity for students to find their greatness in Burleson ISD—even if you reside outside of the district's attendance zone. 

      BISD is accepting student transfer requests (in-district and out-of-district) for a select number of seats for the upcoming school year. Students who meet specific criteria for academic performance, attendance, and behavior standards may be eligible. Transfers are limited by the capacity available.* 

      *BISD operates within the guidelines set by the Texas Education Agency, where funding for enrolled students residing outside the district follows the student. In addition to the requirements above, transfer students must adhere to University Interscholastic League (UIL) eligibility requirements.

      Interdistrict Transfers (from one district to Burleson ISD)

      Who can apply for an interdistrict transfer?

      Nonresident students who meet one of the transfer requirements may submit an application for transfer to BISD.

      • Students who live outside the BISD attendance zone (nonresident) may apply for an interdistrict transfer (from one district to another).
      • A resident student who becomes a nonresident during the course of the school year may request to remain in BISD.
        • Any K-8 student may request to remain in BISD until the end of the current school year.
        • Any 9-12 student may request to remain in BISD until graduation from high school.* *Annual renewal required.
      • A student of a nonresident employee may submit a transfer application. 

       

      Intradistrict Transfers (within BISD)

      Who can apply for an intradistrict transfer? 

      Resident students who meet one of the transfer requirements may submit an application to transfer within the district. 

      • Current resident students who request a transfer within the district.
      • Students whose resident parent/guardian is zoned for one campus in BISD request to attend a different school.
      • Student of a BISD employee.   

       

      Important Information for All Transfers 
      Transportation is not provided for transfer students.

      Annual Renewal - Each year, students must submit a new transfer application during the designated transfer window. Approval is required annually to continue enrollment as a transfer student.

      UIL Eligibility- Any student who transfers to a school outside the student’s attendance area of residence will be subject to all eligibility rules of UIL and such eligibility rules as may be adopted by the Board of Education. (Please refer to the UIL rules of eligibility HERE)

       

      Transfer Revocation

      A transfer student may have a transfer revoked by the campus principal or the Support Services Department if the student:

      • Fails to abide by the rules and policies as contained in the BISD Student-Parent Handbook,
      • Exhibits poor academic performance,
      • Has repeated incidences of tardies,
      • Exhibits poor attendance, and/or
      • Is placed in DAEP.
