Student Council

  • BCHS Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students working together with an adult adviser to provide a means for assistance in school affairs and activities, as well as to give opportunities for students to experience leadership and encourage student/faculty/community relations. BCHS students may join student council by seeing Mrs. Samuels in E205.  Yearly dues are $5.
Student Council sponsors multiple events throughout the school year including Homecoming week activities and dance, Red Ribbon week activities, Holiday events, teacher appreciation, and more.

National Honor Society

  • The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization for high school students whose purpose is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render services, to promote leadership, and to develop character. The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by an association of principals. Today, over one million students participate in NHS, which has chapters in all 50 states and territories of the United States, and around the world. The National Honor Society is one of the most well-known educational and leadership groups.

The Burleson Collegiate High School chapter of the National Honor Society is a student-led organization that recognizes outstanding individuals who are able to balance academics with other responsibilities and interests. Therefore, selection for membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

During the spring semester, all current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who meet the scholarship standard will be notified of eligibility and invited to complete a Candidate Information Form.

Standards for selection into the National Honor Society:

    • 3.825 cumulative GPA on a 4.5 scale (Class of 2024 and above)

    • 4.250 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale (Class of 2025 and below)

    • Involvement in two activities at school or in the community since ninth grade (working part-time may count as an activity as long as you work an average of 15 hours per week).

    • One completed letter of reference from an adult outside of BCHS.

    • Minimum community service hours corresponding to the candidate's current grade level.

      • 9th grade: 15 hours

      • 10th grade: 30 hours

      • 11th grade: 45 hours

    • As demonstrated by administrative records and faculty input in the areas of leadership, service, and character.

Candidates will be notified of selection at the end of the application period set forth by the faculty advisor.

Following notification, a formal induction ceremony will be held at the school to recognize all newly selected members. Once inducted, members are required to meet the standard chapter obligations outlined below:

    • Attendance: attend at least 90% of scheduled meetings

    • Service Hours: minimum of 25 individual service hours and 15 group service hours annually
