National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes outstanding individuals who are able to balance academics with other responsibilities and interests. NHS recognizes those well-rounded individuals who serve as positive role models and contributors to school life. Therefore, selection for membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service and character.
Burleson Collegiate National Honor Society inducted their first class of 29 members in May of 2018. To become a member of NHS, students with a GPA of 3.60 at the end of the Fall semester of their sophomore year are invited to fill out application packet. The application packet includes a personal leadership statement, community service forms, activity forms, teacher recommendations as well as office and counselor recommendations. Upon completion of the packet, the NHS faculty advisory panel reviews all packets of eligible members. Applicants must meet the rubric criteria to be considered for induction into NHS.
Following notification, a formal induction ceremony is held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, members are required to maintain the same (or better) level of performance in all four criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes regular attendance at chapter meetings held during the school year, participation in the chapter service project and fund-raisers, attendance at the induction ceremony, and additional activities involving NHS.
