BISD Names Brenda Gomez as the new BHS Head Girls Basketball Coach
April 12, 2021 – The Burleson Independent School District (BISD) announced Brenda Gomez as the new Burleson High School Head Girls Basketball Coach at the April 12 board meeting. Gomez brings six state basketball championships and 39 years of education and head coach experience to her new role.
During her career, Gomez led her team to 10 state tournament appearances, was a three-time state runner up, and won 21 district championships. She is the Texas Super Centex 2008 Coach of the Year, a three-time recipient of the New Mexico Activities Association Coach of the Year award and was named district coach of the year 19 times. She played basketball at Eastern New Mexico University while earning a Bachelor of Science in Education and is a member of the university’s Athletic Hall of Honor. Gomez also received the New Mexico Activities Association Coaching for Character award.
“We welcome Coach Gomez to Burleson ISD,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “Coach Gomez has not only led her team to state 10 times, she's been recognized as coach of the year numerous times as well. We are confident she will be a true asset to our BHS girls basketball team.”
A long-standing member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Texas Girls Coaches Association, Gomez looks forward to bringing her knowledge of the game to her new role in Burleson.
