BISD Air Force JROTC TX-801st Earns 2019-2020 Distinguished Unit Award with Merit
May 15, 2020 - The Burleson Independent School District (BISD) Air Force JROTC TX-801st receives the 2019-2020 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award with Merit. The BISD Air Force JROTC TX-801st is recognized for performing well above and beyond normal expectations, and for distinguishing themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force JROTC citizen development mission for America.
“The Distinguished Unit Award with Merit recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, the contributions of the instructors as mentors of the cadets, and the support of the school and community,” said HQ Air Force JROTC Director Colonel Stephen T. Sanders. “The Distinguished Unit Award with Merit is limited to the very best of the best of our nation’s 890 Air Force JROTC units.”
In March, students received “Exceeds Standards” on their unit evaluation from Headquarters Air Force JROTC, the highest rating students can achieve during Unit Evaluation. The Unit Evaluation occurs once every three years, and this is the second consecutive evaluation for BISD Air Force JROTC to earn “Exceeds Standards” and receive the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit.
“Our cadets averaged over 12 hours each of Community Service through Color Guards, Highway Cleanups, and a weekly Breakfast with Senior Citizens,” said Lt Col (ret) Walter Blankenship. “They put in many hours of practice to place at both Drill Meets and Marksmanship Competitions. The award was a culmination of hard work on multiple fronts and certainly well deserved.”
