BISD Air Force JROTC TX-801st Receives “Exceeds Standards” on Evaluation
Students Achieve Highest Rating Possible
March 4, 2020 – Burleson Independent School District (BISD) Air Force JROTC students receive “Exceeds Standards” on their unit evaluation from Headquarters Air Force JROTC. “Exceeds Standards” is the highest rating students can achieve during Unit Evaluation, which occurs once every three years.
This is the second consecutive evaluation for BISD Air Force JROTC to earn “Exceeds Standards.”
This milestone achievement allows students to be eligible for the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit Ribbon that will be announced in May.
HQ AFJROTC Deputy Director, retired Colonel Scotty Lewis, evaluated students on eight sections, including Administration, Compliance, Instructor Performance, Equipment Management, Co-Curricular Activities, Cadet Operations, Unit Operations, and a Director's Special Interest Section. All 106 cadets were inspected by Colonel Lewis in a mass formation.
Top Performer Awards were given to Cadet/Colonel Santiago Fonnegra and Cadet/Lt Colonel Sophia Ibarra. Colonel Lewis received a briefing from the top six cadets, met with Burleson High School Principal Wayne Leek, counselors, instructors, and cadets in this head-to- toe comprehensive program evaluation.
“Less than 10% of the units evaluated each year are awarded this highest rating,” said Lt Col Walter Blankenship. “It is reserved for cadets and units that are truly at the top of their game.”
Superintendent Dr. Jimerson, CTE Director Dr. Kibodeaux, and high school principals were present at the Mass Formation and discussed HQ AFJROTC program priorities and new initiatives.
