Burleson ISD Dedicates Kerr Middle School to Students
BISD Thanks Community for Supporting Student Education
January 23, 2020 – The Burleson ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson dedicated Nick Kerr Middle School to the students of Burleson ISD on January 22, 2020. The Kerr Middle School project is one of four district bond projects voters approved in May 2017 to accommodate the needs of the growing district.
Less than two years from the groundbreaking, Kerr Middle School students and staff joined the Nick Kerr family, community leaders, Facilities Advisory Committee members, and former Kerr educators and staff at the dedication event.
BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson recognized the Nick Kerr family for the legacy of their dedication to education in Burleson, noting the Kerr legacy will continue with this new facility.
“Our new Kerr Middle School meets the education needs of our 1,100 students who attend and was built to accommodate our growing student population,” said Dr. Jimerson. “The design of this facility was intentional in functionality and in creating an environment that inspires students and staff each day.”
Dr. Jimerson recognized the many groups involved with the project, including the BISD Board of Trustees.
“I thank you all for your commitment to BISD and for supporting the facilities advisory committee’s plan to address the facility needs of our growing district,” said Dr. Jimerson.
In thanking the Facilities Advisory Committee, Dr. Jimerson added, “This group of community members spent many evenings reviewing school finance and facility information, touring facilities, and working together to determine how best to meet the needs of our growing district. As a committee, you reached consensus on a plan that addressed capacity at our middle schools while accommodating student growth, which was adopted in its entirety by our board of trustees.”
Dr. Jimerson also recognized the BISD project team, Stantec Architecture, Jackson Construction, and the City of Burleson.
School Board President Andy Pickens shared remarks on behalf of trustees, noting the board tasked the facilities advisory committee with creating a recommendation to address both—the evolving facility needs of today's learners and our growing district.
“This committee worked many hours and reviewed a great deal of data as they created their recommendation, which was adopted in its entirety,” said Pickens. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we greatly appreciate all of those who helped bring this facility to the students and staff of Kerr Middle School. This facility is evidence of the value our community places on education and will benefit Burleson for generations.”
Kerr Middle School Principal Dr. Kalee McMullen also recognized students, staff, and the many groups that played a role in bringing this facility to students.
