BISD Names Blake Meyer as Centennial High School Head Football Coach & Athletic Coordinator
March 10, 2025 – The Burleson Independent School District (BISD) names Blake Meyer as Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Centennial High School (CHS). Hired by Coach Kyle Geller in 2010 when the campus opened, Meyer played a key role in establishing the football program and has been instrumental in the success of CHS athletics. With 25 years of high school coaching experience, he has served as the defensive coordinator for the past 15 years.
As defensive coordinator, Meyer led all varsity defensive operations, developing and implementing the defensive system from varsity down to seventh grade. His leadership contributed to the CHS football program securing 11 consecutive playoff appearances since 2014, six bi-district championships, three area titles, and a state quarterfinalist appearance. His contributions helped CHS set the BISD record for most season wins, with a defense that allowed just 16 points per game that season.
Meyer’s impact on CHS athletics extends beyond football. He established the first wrestling program in BISD history and coached five individual state champions, including the district’s first-ever boy and girl UIL state champions. He also led the CHS powerlifting program, further demonstrating his dedication and commitment to developing student-athletes.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Meyer assume the role of CHS Head Football Coach,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “I have known him for many years and have seen firsthand his dedication to the school, the program, and our student-athletes. This commitment will allow him to continue the winning tradition at CHS, and I look forward to seeing the program thrive under his leadership.”
Trustees approved the hiring at the March 10 board meeting based upon the recommendation of a selection committee, which included Chief of Interscholastic Activities Kevin Ozee, Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Operations Kyle Geller, high school and middle school principals, and a community member.
BISD Athletic Director Kevin Ozee said, “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Blake Meyer as the new Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Centennial High School. Coach Meyer has been an integral part of our athletic program for over a decade, demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Blake is deeply respected by his players and the community. He has been Coach Geller's right-hand man and will continue to build on CHS’s success. His vision for our program aligns perfectly with our core values, and we are confident that, under his leadership, Centennial athletics will continue to succeed."
"This is a dream come true,” said Meyer. “I would like to thank the hiring committee and Coach Ozee for putting their trust in me. Thank you Dr. Jimerson and the Board of Trustee, not only for this opportunity, but for all that they do to make Burleson ISD a special place. I would also like to thank Coach Geller for his leadership, which has helped guide and prepare me for this next chapter. I am excited to add to the great legacy that we have built here at Centennial. Most of all I am excited to lead such a great group of young men. I couldn’t ask for a better team to coach. They are what makes Centennial special, and I am proud to be their coach.”
Meyer will begin his new role on March 11. Centennial High School will host a reception for staff, players, and parents from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the indoor facility.
Meyer holds a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University.
