BISD Names Kyle Geller as Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Operations

Burleson Independent School District (BISD) announces Kyle Geller as BISD Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Operations. With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, including 20 as a head coach, Geller brings expertise, leadership, and a track record of success to his new position. Geller will begin his new role following the retirement of Ted Tomchesson, who announced his retirement at the end of this year.

For the past 15 years, Geller has been an integral part of BISD athletics, serving as Centennial High School’s (CHS) only head football coach and athletic coordinator since the school opened in 2010. He helped establish the CHS athletics program and has played a significant role in hiring coaches for each sport. Under Geller’s leadership, CHS football achieved 11 consecutive playoff appearances since 2014, earning six bi-district championships, three area titles, and a state quarterfinalist appearance. He holds BISD records for most single-season wins and most career wins by any football coach in district history. A three-time Johnson County Coach of the Year and a 2022 finalist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram DFW Coach of the Year, Geller has distinguished himself as a dedicated coach, mentor, and leader, committed to the success of his student-athletes.

Beyond football, Geller initiated BISD’s first wrestling program, which placed second at state in 2021. His work as head coach and athletic coordinator also contributed to CHS finishing 17th in the 2021 5A Lone Star Cup standings. Geller’s impact extends across multiple sports, with girls track placing 3rd at state, boys basketball making the regional finals, and softball making a historic run to the 5th playoff round.

“Coach Geller’s wealth of experience, success, and strong relationships with coaches across the district make him an outstanding choice for assistant athletic director of athletic operations,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “His leadership and dedication to our student-athletes will be invaluable in shaping the future of BISD athletics, and we are proud to have him continue his journey with us in this important role.”

As assistant athletic director of athletic operations, Geller will assist in the overall planning and organization of BISD athletic programs, including overseeing athletic facilities and event operations, preparing interscholastic game schedules, assisting with personnel recruitment and training, and promoting the accomplishments of student-athletes and programs.

Kevin Ozee, BISD Chief of Interscholastic Activities added, “I am thrilled for Coach Geller, our athletic program, and the entire Burleson ISD community. Coach Geller has been an outstanding leader at Centennial High School. His exceptional qualities—humility, competitive drive, ability to build strong relationships, willingness to take on any challenge, and deep passion for coaches and athletes—will have an immediate and positive impact across the district."

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Centennial High School for the past 15 years,” said Geller. “I am very proud of our body of work. Thank you to all the players and coaches that made this all I ever hoped for. Transitioning into the assistant athletic director of athletic operations position made perfect sense at this time and I look forward to serving the district that I love in this capacity. Burleson ISD is a special place, and I would like to thank Dr. Jimerson and Coach Ozee for this opportunity."

BISD will immediately begin the search for the new head football coach for CHS to ensure a seamless transition and uphold the high standards of excellence established within the program.
