BISD Names Candice Cook Principal of Norwood Environmental Science Academy

March 8, 2021 – The Burleson Independent School District (BISD) introduced Candice Cook as the Norwood Environmental Science Academy (NESA) Principal at the March 8 board meeting.

Cook has 11 years of education experience in BISD, most recently serving as the NESA Assistant Principal. She is the former academic assistant principal at STEAM Middle School, the district’s first school of choice, and began her career as an elementary science teacher. Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in science from Texas Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in Education and Principal Certification from Stephen F. Austin University.

BISD announced NESA as a new school of choice in January, offering students an opportunity to explore a specific pathway while still learning the required state curriculum. Beginning Fall 2021, the specialized curriculum at NESA will incorporate science and environmental influences through applications to real-world settings.

“Mrs. Cook is a dynamic leader who has been instrumental in developing Norwood Environmental Science Academy into Burleson ISD’s newest school of choice,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “We believe Mrs. Cook’s leadership experience and established relationships with Norwood families and staff will contribute to her success as Principal at NESA.”

"It's an incredible honor to serve as principal at Norwood Environmental Science Academy as we transition into a school of choice,” said Cook. “I'm excited to continue our journey of striving for excellence as we meet students' 21st- century needs through access to hands-on learning and environmental sciences.”
