BISD Names Crystal Deaver Principal of REALM Secondary School

June 8, 2020 – Burleson Independent School District (BISD) announces Crystal Deaver as the Principal of REALM Secondary School. Deaver brings 10 years of experience in education and success as a secondary administrator to her new role as REALM Principal.

As an administrator at a secondary school in Fort Worth, Deaver played a critical role in expanding the school for students in grades 6-10 into one serving students in grades 6-12. Deaver also developed the school’s University of Texas OnRamps program—increasing student enrollment in the program by 250 percent in one year—for students to earn college credit for courses such as computer science programming. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University, a master’s degree in education administration from Texas A&M University Commerce, and is currently earning a doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University Commerce.

“Mrs. Deaver is a natural leader and helped add grade levels each year at a choice secondary campus as it grew to its first graduating class,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “She has done what we are doing now at REALM and has a vision for what REALM can become. And, she is a gamer!”

REALM will add a sophomore class in the Fall of 2020 as it develops into a 6-12 grade campus  of game design and blended learning.

“Since its inception, REALM has been both groundbreaking in concept and innovative in practice, and I am excited to call Burleson ISD home,” said Deaver. “I am eager to lead REALM’s mission in creating game changers and developing students into critical thinkers and skilled technicians to meet computer science and gaming industry demands.”

Parents and students will be invited to a meet-and-greet event in August.
