BISD Extends School Closure Until April 13 - Classes Set to Resume April 14

On March 25, the City of Burleson issued a Mandatory Stay-at-Home Order until Monday, April 13, unless extended by Burleson City Council. BISD will extend its current closure until April 13, and resume regular classes on April 14.

BISD is in constant contact with local and state officials and is consistently monitoring these rapidly-changing events. Please know that every decision we make is based on thorough discussions and considerations with these officials.

Families share their children with us trusting we will keep them safe. With that said, please know we will resume classes only when it is safe. The health and safety of our students, staff, and families are our highest priority, and our decisions will reflect that.

Parents and students may continue to visit the BISD Learning Page for grade-appropriate resources until April 3. Beginning April 6, specific content will be provided by your students’ teachers via Google Classroom. An updated website will go out for parents with specific instructions on how to login and support their students. Teachers will continue reaching out to students. Parents and students may also email teachers with any questions.

BISD will continue to update the resources below on our website at http://bit.ly/burlesonisdhealthupdate. We encourage parents to check regularly for updates.

Dear Burleson ISD:

Tarrant County Public Health notified us this morning that it will declare a state of emergency today at 1:30 p.m in response to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Governor Abbott declared a state disaster in Texas today at noon. To combat the new COVID-19, Tarrant County Public Health recommends that all school districts remain closed for two weeks following Spring Break. This precaution will reduce interaction among individuals for the recommended 14-day quarantine period following Spring Break travel.

Accordingly, all Burleson ISD schools will remain closed after Spring Break until Sunday, April 5. All extracurricular activities are also canceled during this time. This includes use of facilities such as open gyms, weight rooms, tryouts, practices and in-person team meetings effective at 1:30 p.m. today.

Public Health officials also recommend that during this time everyone avoid large gatherings, especially those in closed spaces, to prevent the spread of this virus. Please be cautious about your plans and activities, and follow the CDC guidelines.

Should online learning become necessary, we will provide instructions and resources at a later date. All students and staff members should take their district-provided, personal electronic devices home. We are also working with state and local officials to assist students with meals during closure. Our website will be updated as we receive new information from local, state, and federal officials regarding COVID-19, and we will continue to provide additional information as we receive it.

Sincerely,

Bret Jimerson, Ed. D., J.D.

Superintendent

Burleson ISD
