Special Education Hero Image

The Burleson ISD provides special education services for over 2000 students annually.

All students served meet eligibility criteria as students with disabilities who require a broad range of support and services in order to receive educational benefits from their instruction.

Special Education & 504 Records Request

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) provides for a parent’s right to inspect, review and seek correction of a child’s educational records. Copies of this policy are on file in each school office and at the District Office.

If you wish to review your child’s cumulative record, you may request the school principal to set up a convenient time for such a review. If you would like to submit an open records request, please reach out to the communication department. If your child is enrolled in a special education or 504 program and you would like to review their special education or 504 records (FIIE, ARD, or 504), you should contact the Director of Special Education or the Director of Special Programs to arrange a separate meeting to review those. The district will comply with your request as soon as possible.

Upon reaching the age of 18, a student has all of the legal rights and responsibilities previously given to a parent or legal guardian. Parents who claim a student 18 years or older as a dependent may still have access to all records. To request records, the student may release their records to an authorized representative in the form of a notarized written statement.

Special Education Programs Offered

The Burleson Independent School District ensures that, to the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities are educated with children who are not disabled. The Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee is responsible for determining the least restrictive environment (LRE) in which a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) is to be implemented. Instructional arrangements/settings shall be based on the individual needs of the student and his/her IEP.
