Supporting Burleson ISD
The Purchasing Department oversees purchases throughout our district to ensure we provide the best value goods and services. Burleson ISD, as well as all other school districts in the State of Texas, is governed by federal, state and local competitive procurement statutes, regulations and polices in accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC) 44.031.
When Burleson ISD procures more than $50,000 of similar goods within a single fiscal year (July 1–June 30), it is required to either conduct a formal bidding process—consisting of bid specifications, public advertisement, evaluation, and award—or make the purchase through an approved purchasing cooperative. Purchasing cooperatives generally follow comparable competitive procurement procedures to solicit bids and award contracts to vendors on behalf of their members.
In defining “similar goods,” the Texas Education Code (TEC) includes categories such as technology items (e.g., computers, printers, peripherals, and network equipment) and athletic supplies (e.g., helmets, training gear, and equipment) as representative examples. Burleson ISD formally solicits bids on an 'as-needed' basis.
