The Fast Break for Reading campaign is a joint initiative between the International Reading Association(IRA), the American Basketball Association (ABA) and classroom teachers nationwide to encourage students to read for 10 minutes a day, with a goal of a million minutes read nationwide by the conclusion of the program. After you sign up for the program, you can download the official Program Reading Log and Certificate of Participation. Photocopy and distribute the logs to your students, who will record their minutes. Overview Reading is essential to a child’s learning process. That’s why Target awards grants to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations to support programs such as after-school reading events and weekend book clubs. Together we’re fostering a love of reading and encouraging children, preschool through third grade, to read together with their families. Guidelines Early childhood reading grants are $2,000. Search the Web by Readability Level

Powered by Google, Twurdy is a new search engine (still in Beta) that uses color coding to show reading difficulty levels for your search results. The harder a page is to read, the darker orange the search result is shaded. There’s even an option to show you the approximate age for readers based on the difficulty.
