Encourage Environmental Stewardship

Discovery Education and the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute’s Education and Research Foundation have launched TurfMutt, an online science-based program designed to help educators teach an appreciation of outdoor landscapes. The digital curriculum is led by Lucky, a real-life rescue dog who encourages students to protect the land around them. TurfMutt includes lesson plans for students in grades 3–5, engaging activities, videos and more. Recognize a Top Young Scientist

Discovery Education and 3M have announced the 2011 call for entries for the 13th annualDiscovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. The competition is for students in grades 5–8 who are enthusiastic about science. Ten finalists will be selected to receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, to compete in the final challenge. The winner will receive $25,000 and the title of America’s Top Young Scientist. New this year is a Summer Mentorship Program: the 10 finalists will be paired with 3M scientists to complete a summer assignment having to do with innovation.
