Successful Downlink with the International Space Station

Our downlink on June 26th, with the International Space Station was a galactic success. Astronaut Greg Chamitoff entertained the students and audience as he answered 10 of the 20 planned questions. Due to a 9.4 second delay in the video signal reaching us from the International Space Station, it took much longer than hoped to answer each question. Our downlink was covered by several news media including Channels 4, 8, and 11, radio station KRLD, the Star Telegram, the Burleson Star, the Burleson-Crowley Connection and students from Burleson High School and Hughes Middle School broadcast journalism classes. Using Region XI Education Service Center as the bridge, we broadcast the downlink to students and educators around the world to Honk Kong, Chihuahua, Mexico, New York City and numerous schools in Texas. The service center recorded our broadcast and the video will be available here in a few days, so check back soon.

Welcome to the new BISD Instructional Technology website! We hope you enjoy our newly remodeled site and will take a few moments to browse around. You will always find navigational links to your right to assist you.

We’ve added some new, interactive features to our site:

Resources: Now you can register as a user and add your favorite resources to our resources page! Share your favorite lesson plans, web pages, and ideas. You’ll find instructional videos, How-To’s, and a Frequently Asked Question page to help you find just what you need to integrate technology into your classroom.
Staff Development: Find IT classes by topic, read class descriptions and prerequisites, rate classes you’ve taken, and take surveys to help us improve our course selection.
Available Equipment: Print a list of what’s available for checkout, view the checkout calendar for equipment availability, and reserve your equipment right from the website!
Awards: Teachers can now nominate each other for the TUT (Teachers Using Technology) Award. The nomination form is linked to from this page. You can also view TUT Award winners and leave your congratulations for them on the page.
