BISD Blogs

What is a blog?
Blog is a derivative of the words Web Log. A blog is an interactive, read/write environment that allows authors to publish content to the internet, and allows readers to comment on that content. BISD offers free blogging to all of it’s employees at BISDBlogs.net

Why do I need a blog?
There are several benefits to blogging. Your information is instantly uploaded to the internet, allowing parents and students to have up-to-date information quickly. Parents and students may comment on your blog in order to communicate with you, participate in class discussions, etc. You may upload notes, PowerPoint presentations, forms, photos, and audio files to your blog, providing your students and parents with a wealth of resources…instantly. Here are some examples of great teacher blogs currently in use…stop by and see the different ways blogs can be used in the classroom…

Secondary: Camp Allard, Intro to Business, Whitty’s Blog Space, Bracht Rocks,

Elementary: Mrs. Schmoker’s Math and Science Page, Tune’s Room, SX World, Bohon Blogs

Who can get a blog?
Any BISD employee can register to create a blog.

How do I get a blog?
Just go to the BISD Blogs site and click register in the upper left corner.

What kind of account do I register for?
Please be sure that you only register for a COMMUNITY AUTHOR ACCOUNT….DO NOT sign up for a Reader account.

Do you have a step-by-step manual for this?
Yes, you can find helpful instructions by CLICKING HERE.

It says I need a security key. Where do I get one?
Just email us at it@burlesonisd.net and we’ll give you the key.

Do my students/parents have to register to be able to comment on my blog?
Absolutely not. In fact, we would prefer that students and parents did NOT register. Anyone may comment on your blog (provided you have not turned the comment feature off) by simply clicking the comment feature under your individual posts.

Do comments immediately post to my blog?
No, as the author of the blog, you must approve all comments before they will post to your blog. This is a safety feature to prevent inappropriate materials from being posted to your public account. Please make students and parents aware of this, so that they do not submit multiple comments.

Can I put pictures or files on my blog?
Yes, you can upload pictures, files, and audio to your blog. The maximum upload file size is 2 MB. For more information on uploading, see our Blog Manual.

Can I change the background theme for my blog?
Yes, you can select Change Theme from your author menu on the right (after you log in). There are several different themes to choose from. BISD is also creating it’s own set of blog backgrounds for teacher use. An announcement will be sent when those themes are available.

Can students have a blog? Can they post to my blog?
The current BISD Blog network is for district employee blogging only at this time. The blog is not set up to handle teacher moderation of student posts and is therefore NOT recommended for student posting. At NO TIME should a student be given access to your blog username and password or be allowed to post to your blog. If you would like your students to blog, contact the Instructional Technology department to learn about our student blogging options.
