This appears to be another great resource for videos for educational use. The blog link will provide more detailed information and the appropriate links to sign up.

Check out this java applet that creates “clouds” out of inputed text. In the example below, I used my name with words associated with the content I teach. http://wordle.net/ There are tons of possibilities for using this in the classroom.

Templates created by/for BISD Teachers

These files were created for teachers and students to use if they
are uncomfortable with creating PowerPoint Presentations from scratch.
Each one has instructions below each slide in the notes box explaining to the student exactly what to do on each slide. Click on the link and save them to their desktop.

Thomas Edison Biography Template - This template was created for a class to write a biography PowerPoint on Thomas Edison. It can be adjusted to write any biograohy.

Poem Template - This template was created to allow students to type in poems they had written.

Habitats Template - This template walks students through creating a PowerPoint presentation on 4 habitats. The students should have already done the research before beginning.

Portfolio Template - This template allows students to create a portfolio of their work.

Texas Facts - This template guides students into creating a presentation on facts of the State of Texas.

Sentence Writing - This Microsoft Word template was created for 1st grade. It was created as a form and is protected. The students can’t change the content of the document, only the input. For a teacher to change the content, you need to unprotect the form - password is “sentence”.

One Website from the closing speaker

This was the one website I was able to get down from the closing speaker http://torres21.typepad.com/flickschool/ It amazed me how many different teachers had figured out that they had to make the subject appealing to the students. These teachers chose to use pod-casting, broadcasting, windows movies, etc. to make their subject interesting. One school started making posters of students stories who scored a 4 on their practice writing. Then that student was allowed to make an audio pod cast of the story. Once that was done, they let the student make a windows movie, using still pictures the students took with a small digital camera, about their story. The school posted the podcast and then the movie on the school website. They said that after about the 3rd or 4th story that was made into a movie, students who had never wanted to write started revising and revising until they got the necessary 4 on their paper to be allowed to do this.

A Different Approach to TAKS

I went to several broadcast workshops where they were using quick clips to help students with TAKS. This website has more than just the broadcast notes. http://www.pasadenaisd.org/tcea/

You can also use Photo Story 3 to make videos from still pictures and the students love it! There was a school that used the incentive of making a Photo Story 3 movie out of the students work (they had to score a 4 to do this) that raised their TAKS writing scores. They actually had students that had never wanted to learn about revising doing a ton of revising just to get to make a movie out of their story.

Check out the Teacher resource and print the Slope Slider Explorations Sheet and Slope Slider Record Sheet. I had my students record the results of 4 different graphs on the record sheet. They were asked to create 1 line initially and record their results (no decimals please), then they only changed the y-intercept and created 3 new lines and recorded those results. They DISCOVERED that parallel lines have the same slope!

What is the Edusim?

The Edusim is an educational 3D interactive virtual environment platform (Metaverse) built on Croquet with resource packs being developed for the K-12 classroom by the Greenbush Education Service Center.

The goal of the Edusim project is to provide a safe 3D interactive environment for classroom activities (interactive white boards, modeling, machinima, and MORE).

The Edusim on an interactive whiteboard surface is an extremely powerful way to engage your students. Students can connect to the interactive whiteboard from the Edusim running on their desktop computers, or by connecting several interactive whiteboards together using the Edusim and the school network to create a collaborative 3D interactive environment where students from multiple classrooms can connect and collaborate virtually!
