Schlecty says that students should be authentically engaged in learning something that is valued by society. According to many, our students do not know enough about the geography of the world. Using GPS in education is engaging and students learn about mapping and geography along with problem solving skills. This week, BISD teachers will learn how to engage students in real world, authentic learning with GPS receivers.

Help Autistic Children Understand Emotions
Need help teaching an autistic child struggling to understand emotions like excited and scared? There’s a game for that—and one that will put that child’s face, voice and favorite colors into the game. A customizable, online autism library with tools like the emotion game is one of the key offerings in VizZle, new Web-based software from Monarch Teaching Technologies. VizZle (short for “visual learning”) builds customized, autism-specific flashcards, games and other interactive exercises for children. All these personalized materials can be placed online for other VizZle users to borrow and adapt.

Upgrade Technology in Your Classroom
Through its Focus on Learning Grant Program, Samsung Techwin America’s Electronic Imaging Division is offering 50 Samsung 850DX document cameras to K–12 teachers based on need. Any K–12 teacher in a United States school is eligible to apply.

These files were created for teachers and students to use if they
are uncomfortable with creating PowerPoint Presentations from scratch.
Each one has instructions below each slide in the notes box explaining to the student exactly what to do on each slide. Click on the link and save them to their desktop.
Thomas Edison Biography Template – This template was created for a class to write a biography PowerPoint on Thomas Edison. It can be adjusted to write any biograohy.
Poem Template – This template was created to allow students to type in poems they had written.
Habitats Template – This template walks students through creating a PowerPoint presentation on 4 habitats. The students should have already done the research before beginning.
Portfolio Template – This template allows students to create a portfolio of their work.
Texas Facts – This template guides students into creating a presentation on facts of the State of Texas.
Sentence Writing – This Microsoft Word template was created for 1st grade. It was created as a form and is protected. The students can’t change the content of the document, only the input. For a teacher to change the content, you need to unprotect the form – password is “sentence”.
These PowerPoint activities can be downloaded and customized for any classroom or topic.
100,000 Dollar Pyramid – Put your vocabulary words or phrases in the squares. Students pair up and one student must get the other to say the vocabulary word and phrase by giving them clues.
Be A Champion – This football themed game lets teams of students answer questions to earn touchdowns!
Concentration – Use your own vocabulary, photos, or classroom content to customize this classic matching game.
Hollywood Squares 1 – Customize the questions asked by stars in this PowerPoint version of the famous game show.

If you do not already have an IT account as an author for this resource page, register by clicking on the link to your right. You will recieve an email upon approval. Then please add a post and upload your templates and examples here. Be sure to select the category “Performance Excellence” so other teachers can easily find them.
