Welcome to our website!  The purpose of this site is to keep all stakeholders informed by posting the latest news, pictures, and information regarding Oak Valley High School.  Please know Oak Valley is our temporary name until the school board determines the official school name.  The board prefers to have a regional name.  We value the BISD community's input and will be soliciting name suggestions later this fall.

The link below offers stakeholders the opportunity to ask questions regarding Oak Valley High School.  During this time of transition, we want to do our best to answer any questions regarding Oak Valley High School.  We will post facts on our website to address potential questions, but please feel free to email questions that are on your mind.

Oak Valley hosts behind-the-scenes tour and cookout for future students and parents

Monday, November 16, 2009

Principal Lance Campbell visits with future Oak Valley parrents and studentsOver the weekend, future Oak Valley parents and students were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour and cookout at Burleson's newest high school.  According to our records, we had over 700 individuals participate in the event.

The day would not have been a success without the support of Charter Builders for which we would like to say "thanks" for their willingness to allow this special event.  Also, a special "thank you" to the following parents who volunteered their time:  Vince Kearns, David Lucas, Steve Rebrovich, Wendy Stowe, Tracy and Jim Underwood, Byran Myres, Terry and Dale Ekstrom, Roseanne Grace, Lori Johnston, Ronald Kuehler, and Paul Friedman.

To parents and students who were unable to attend, please know we will work to schedule a day similar to Saturday in the spring of 2010.

UIL Competition

Monday, September 28, 2009

Greetings!

On September 23rd, future parents of Oak Valley High School were involved in a meeting to discuss our football plans for the 2010-2011school year as well as the 2011-2012 school year.  We had approximately forty participants attend the meeting to discuss realignment/reclassification.  Additionally, we had many parents email or call to provide recommendations as to our direction in the University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.).  The UIL requires each new high school to submit its intent as to what level of competition the school will compete in during its inaugural year.   Football is unique from other sports because in the rules all schools are essentially under a two- year commitment in terms of scheduling.  Parents were presented with three options as to how we will compete during our inaugural season. The options are listed below:

Option 1: Do not declare varsity honors football for a two year cycle. Freshman/Sophomore (2010-2011) would play only junior varsity schedules for one year. Freshman/Sophomore/Junior (2011-2012) would play a freshman, junior-varsity schedule and varsity (non-honors) outlaw schedule.

Option 2: Do not declare varsity honors football for a two year cycle. Freshman/Sophomore (2010-2011) and Freshman/Sophomore/Junior (2011-2012) would play only JV schedules for two years.

Option 3: Declare varsity honors football for a two year cycle. Freshman/Sophomore (2010-2011) and Freshman/Sophomore/Junior (2011-2012) would play JV & Varsity honors schedules for two years.

The participants voted overwhelmingly in favor of Option 1.  Our football   team will compete at the freshman and junior varsity levels during our inaugural year.  The second year we will compete in an outlaw schedule, allowing our students to compete against other varsity teams.  As to all other sports, we will compete at the freshman and junior varsity levels during our inaugural year... individual sports will compete at the varsity level.  The UIL will move Oak Valley into a district our second year to allow competition at the varsity level. Click on Student Activity link to view UIL competition-Student Activity

Thank you.

Oak Valley Update!

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

On September 8th, the High School Transition Team had their final meeting to discuss two important issues regarding the new high school. First, the committee determined what grade levels Oak Valley would open with during its inaugural year.  The committee’s recommendation is that we open Oak Valley with 9th and 10th grades for the 2010-2011 school year. Please know all recommendations have to be approved by the Board of Trustees…they will make the final decision.

Next, the committee reviewed a transfer document that addressed many issues regarding student transfers.  Some general information about student transfers is listed below:

  • Transportation for transfer students will be provided.
  • For the 2010-2011 school year only, all students will be considered eligible for varsity athletics.
  • After the 2010-2011 school year, all transfer students will be ineligible for varsity athletics for one year.
  • Once a transfer is granted, requests for transfers back to the sending school will not be considered.
  • Student transfer requests will be required for participation in an instructional program offered at one campus and not the other.
  • Student transfer requests between schools, for reasons other than listed below, will be considered on a case by case basis after the first six weeks by the principals of the schools involved.
  • All secondary transfers are subject to review by the University Interscholastic League, even though the transfer request may be granted.  It is the responsibility of the transfer requesting family to ensure that any and all possible UIL ramifications are considered. Questions regarding the impact of transfers on UIL- governed activities can be directed to the BISD Director of Student Activities.
  • Transfers for students of BISD staff members are considered under a different procedure.

Lastly, we asked future parents of Oak Valley High to join several committees that address a graduate, teacher, and parent profile to begin the process of identifying our school culture.  School culture is not likely to be found in lofty visions, mission statements, or campus improvement plans.   In Leading Change in Your School, Douglas Reeves states, “culture is reflected in the behavior, attitudes, and beliefs of individuals and groups.  A campus provides an abundant amount of examples of school culture; these cultures are typically created at the inception of the school.

In order for Oak Valley High School to have a tradition that uniquely identifies the school, we must begin developing an atmosphere that represents our values and beliefs.  The name, brand, and every decision that is made should communicate all the virtues and traditions that we feel are important.  If you are interested in participating in one of the aforementioned committees, please email Tannery Franks at tfranks@burlesonisd.net.

Thank You!

Rumor Control

Friday, September 18, 2009

We have received several inquiries regarding Oak Valley High School. Our plan is to answer questions by posting responses on the website.  There are certain questions that are too specific to answer at this point, so we will only respond to what we know. Hopefully through our postings the majority of questions will be answered.  We truly appreciate your comments/questions.

  • On September 8th, we will have our final Transition Committee meeting at central office. During the meeting, the committee members will 1) determine what grade levels Oak Valley will open in 2010 2) define our transfer policy.  Please know all recommendations have to be approved by the board of trustees.
  • After our September 8th, meeting we will begin organizing committees to create Oak Valley profiles that represent our parents, students, and teachers.  We will work closely with Parent Teacher Organization members from Hughes and Kerr, and the leadership from Burleson High School.
  • On August 24th, members of the board of trustees determined that Oak Valley will have a regional name. The district is currently working to create a committee to provide those suggestions to our board. However, citizens are invited to submit names.
  •  Once the school has been named, we will begin the process of naming our mascot, school colors, alma mater, and fight song.  Please know students will be the ultimate decision makers when creating the aforementioned items.  More information will be forthcoming at a later date.
  • The main entrance to Oak Valley High School faces north towards Hurst Road.  There are three entrances into Oak Valley:  these are Hurst, Fox Creek, and Renfro.   We have not finalized the traffic patterns but please know we are working to resolve these issues.
  • Hurst Road will be upgraded from Renfro to the north of Oak Valley property to assist with traffic flow.
