Middle School Students recognized through Duke Talent Identification Program

Duke Talent Identification Program's (TIP) 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants also gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.
Kerr had 6 students qualify for State Recognition and one for Grand Recognition in the Duke TIP program. Hughes had 4 for State Recognition and one for Grand Recognition. The criteria for State Recognition is that the students scored approximately at the 50% national percentile ranking (NPR) for juniors or seniors (traditional testers) of the ACT and SAT. To qualify for Grand Recognition, a student must be at approximately the 90 percent NPR. Those qualifying for State Recognition are honored at a ceremony in Texas. For Grand Recognition, those students are honored at Duke University in a ceremony.
