Expedition 17 NASA Downlink a Success

Our downlink on June 26th, with the International Space Station was a galactic success. Astronaut Greg Chamitoff entertained the audience as he answered questions provided by BISD students. Our downlink was covered by several news media including Channels 4, 8, and 11, radio station KRLD, the Star Telegram, the Burleson Star, the Burleson-Crowley Connection and students from Burleson High School and Hughes Middle School broadcast journalism classes. Using Region XI Education Service Center as the bridge, we broadcast the downlink to students and educators around the world to Honk Kong, Chihuahua, Mexico, New York City and numerous schools in Texas. Thanks to everyone who participated in this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Mission BISD: All Systems Go Summer Science and Technology Camp A Success

The Mission BISD: All Systems Go summer science and technology camp, a week long look at science and technology with a NASA theme, ended in the stars on Friday, June 13, 2008 as students visited the portable planetarium from the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and sponsored by ProComputing Corporation.

Throughout the week students also experienced geocaching, robotics, data probes and hand-held microscopes, student response systems, digital photostories, lab experiments, and much more.

NASA Expedition 17 Downlink

On April 22nd Burleson ISD received an exciting email from NASA that started with these words, “Congratulations! The Teaching From Space Office at the Johnson Space Center would like to officially notify you that your proposal was selected for a live-in-flight education downlink for Expedition 17 on the International Space Station.”

We hope you will join us on June 26, 2008 at Burleson High School for this historic event. The downlink is currently scheduled in a window from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and we are planning a big day that includes science demonstrations, a question and answer time with a NASA specialist, robotics competions and much more. Come and experience it all from 9:30-2:00, June 26, 2008.

The Texas Education Agency recently released the Gold Performance Acknowledgements for districts and campuses throughout the State of Texas. The purpose of the Acknowledgements is to recognize areas of commended performance that are based upon the percentage of students attaining commended performance on TAKS.
