STAAR Resources

In Spring of 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).  The STAAR program includes annual assessments for grades 3–8 in reading and mathematics; assessments in writing at grades 4 and 7; in science at grades 5 and 8; and in social studies at grade 8; and end-of-course assessments (EOCs) for English I, English II,  Algebra I, Biology and U.S History.  The Texas Education Agency posts resources on their website to provide opportunities for familiarization  of the design and format of the STAAR program.  These resources are found at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar/.

October 2016 Testing

For the October 2016 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) exit level tests, out-of-school (OOS) examinees (including former TAAS and TEAMS examinees) must register online at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/taksoos. Registration opens August 8, 2016, and ends September 23, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. (CT). Examinees who do not register by September 23, 2016, must be registered by campus personnel at a participating campus on the day of testing, if the campus can accommodate them. A list of participating campuses can be found at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/takstestsites.
The October TAKS exit level tests will be administered as follows:
·   October 17, 2016 (English language arts)
·   October 18, 2016 (mathematics)
·   October 19, 2016 (science)
·   October 20, 2016 (social studies)
Because the TAAS tests are no longer being administered, former TAAS examinees (including former TEAMS examinees) will take the TAKS exit level mathematics and/or appropriate part of the English language arts test(s). TAKS scores will be matched to the appropriate TAAS passing standard.
On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive at the test site 30 minutes before the designated testing time. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, DPS ID, military ID, school ID, or resident alien card to test. Examinees will not be allowed to take the test(s) without a picture ID.
