Burleson ISD Superintendent Named Citizen of the Year

Dr. Bret Jimerson Awarded by Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce

BURLESON, Texas (Feb. 16, 2017) – Burleson Independent School District (BISD) Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson is named the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. Dr. Jimerson was recognized at the Chamber of Commerce Annual  Awards Luncheon on February 16, 2017, at Pathway Church.

The Citizen of the Year award is given to someone who contributes to the community in an outstanding way, through the Chamber of Commerce and other service organizations.

“I am genuinely humbled and honored to receive such a tremendous award,” said Dr. Bret Jimerson. “The Burleson community has welcomed my family and me, and is a place we are honored to call home.”

Craig Couch, Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board, presented the award to Dr. Jimerson.

“The Citizen of the Year is an individual with a visible leadership presence in our community,” said Couch. “His involvement in United Way, Boy Scouts of America, the Rotary Club, Big Brothers and Sisters of America and several other civic organizations, are just a few examples of his civic-minded leadership. His innovative leadership style, willingness to think outside the box and to get things accomplished in record time have brought many accolades his way, including a nomination for the State’s Best Superintendent.”

Chamber President Belinda Alles is impressed with the impact Dr. Jimerson’s leadership has made in the school district and in the community.

“The Chamber’s Young Executives Alliance toured the district earlier this school year and we were able to see the great work being done under Dr. Jimerson’s leadership,” said Alles. “From the use of technology on campuses, the renovations to STEAM Middle School and the diverse opportunities available to students, it’s no surprise his efforts with the schools have been well-received.”

Dr. Jimerson also serves as Chairman for the Burleson Opportunity Fund and is a member of the Burleson Character Council.

Previous Citizen of the Year award recipients include Kent Tucker, former Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South Vice President; Art Brucks, State Farm Insurance; and Tom Cowan, former Burleson Chief of Police.
