District Receives Unmodified Opinion, Qualifies as Low-Risk Auditee

BURLESON, Texas – (Nov. 28, 2017) – Burleson Independent School District (BISD) released budget audit findings for the comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2017.. BISD was given an “unmodified opinion,” which is the highest level of assurance and confidence for financial statements.

“We were pleased to learn the district audit was clean and with no findings of error,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson. “Our district makes its fiscal responsibility a top priority and these ratings substantiate our commitment.”

Jackie Gonzalez, Financial Services Partner with Weaver and Tidwell, noted there were no findings in internal controls or in compliance.

“This was a clean audit and the district qualifies as a low-risk auditee,” said Gonzalez. No material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies, and no noncompliance material to financial statements were found.”

The audit process took a risk-based approach to address federal and state grant revenues and expenditures, state foundation school program revenue, capital assets, fund balance, and payroll and payroll-related liabilities.

The audit was performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), and Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance), by Weaver and Tidwell, LLP. Uniform Guidance replaced U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB Circular A-133).
