Why did you choose education as your career field?
I think that education chose me! I had no educators in my family, but was very drawn to the idea of being a teacher. My grandmother used to laugh and say that I was a born teacher. It was, and still is, important to me to live in a way that benefits others. I try to teach my own children that our purpose on this Earth is to do just that—do whatever we can to help other people in whatever way we can. |
Where was your first teaching job? What subjects have you taught?
I taught 1st grade in a small town in west Texas (Breckenridge). I also taught 4th grade in Breckenridge and then 6th grade World History and 8th grade Reading at Graham Middle School. My next assignment was a fun and unusual job. I was a peer mediation teacher for Graham ISD. I taught high school students to help others resolve their conflicts by mediating. The high school students and I also taught conflict resolution lessons for all levels PK-12. Then, I became an educational diagnostician for Graham ISD and enjoyed that position for 4 years. After I moved to the metroplex, I heard that Mound Elementary had a half time counselor position open. I applied for it and became a counselor at Mound. |
Administrative experience includes:
I was assistant principal at Mound for one year before coming to Bransom. |
Fun stuff . . .Hobbies:
I love to be with my own kiddos. I go to lots of practices, rehearsals, games, etc. The kids and I like to draw. I used to paint a little before I had so many kids involved in so many activities. I also read lots of different kinds of books and watch movies with my husband every chance I get. We all love to travel too—New York is probably my favorite. (...Or maybe the beach; I can’t decide.) |
Children:
I have three kids. Like everyone who has kids—I think that mine are the best around! Scout is 15 and he loves basketball. Tate is 12 and he seems to be most into Performing Arts. Emma is 10 and she loves soccer (as well as lots of other things too). My husband and my kids make my heart sing. |
Pets' names and breeds:
I have a 10 year old Shih Tzu named Palmer and a 1 year old mutt named Marshal. They are a hoot. My family loves animals. A little secret about us—we have been known to “adopt” (by that, I mean just name them) toads and geckos that hang around our back patio! |
Favorite food:
I like food and lots of different kinds! My favorite would have to be Mexican. Fajitas are hard to beat. I love spicy foods. I also love artichoke hearts and broccoli! I love Italian food and Southern cooking. I just recently learned to eat sushi and I never thought I would like that, but now I do! |
